BFG Africa is the pan-African subsidiary of BFG International, one of the largest and oldest diversified composites manufacturers in the world. BFG Africa is majority black-owned, with 51% acquired in June 2018 by the South African company, Mergence Group.

For over 40 years, BFG has been a global leader and pioneer in composite design, engineering and manufacturing, with over 2,000 people and 15 production facilities worldwide, we are committed to quality and innovation. BFG enables clients to become inventors of their own products, with advanced composite fabrication facilities across five continents, an expert internationally mobile talent base and a truly connected global supply chain.

As part of our strategic expansion, BFG Africa established a new branch in Dar es Salaam in 2024. This move strengthens our presence in East Africa, addressing the region’s growing demand for composite materials across various industries. BFG Tanzania enhances our ability to deliver tailored composite solutions and support local projects in transportation, industrial, marine craft, and architectural sectors.

This expansion underscores BFG Africa’s commitment to driving growth and innovation on the continent, solidifying our position as a key player in the regional composites industry.

Our South African facility, opened in June 2018, covers a floor area of 9 500m2 and is considered one of the best of its kind in the world on account of its lean manufacturing approach, highly trained workforce and best-in-class manufacturing equipment. It can enable a wide range of fibre-reinforced plastic (FRP) processes.

BFG Africa has two large presses with a capacity of 1500 tons each and an in-house sheet moulding composite (SMC) production line. The SMC products comply to fire & smoke requirements and high dimensional accuracy. These state-of-the-art presses are designed for high quality requirements to serve the railway and automotive applications. In addition, the factory enables the following wide range of fibre-reinforced plastic (FRP) processes:

  • Open contact moulding
  • Resin transfer moulding (RTM)
  • Vacuum infusion
  • Press moulding
  • Painting
  • Tool making
  • Systems integration and assembly
